Pet microchipping in Molesey
Pet microchipping is a quick and simple procedure that can vastly improve your chances of being reunited with your beloved pet should they go missing. There’s no need to search for ‘pet microchipping near me’ – if you live in or near Molesey, book a pet microchipping appointment at Molesey Vets.
What is pet microchipping and why get it done?
When a pet is microchipped, a small ‘chip’ the size of a grain of rice, is inserted just under the skin between their shoulder blades – the sensation is similar to having a vaccination.
The microchip is designed to last for life and not be removed. It can be scanned using a specialist piece of equipment and will reveal your pet’s unique microchip code. This code is linked with your contact details on a national database – which you should always keep up to date.
New Cat Microchipping Law: The June 10th Deadline Has Passed, Act Now
As well as avoiding risking a hefty fine for non-compliance with the dog & cat laws, here’s why you should microchip your pet:
- Lost Pets: Microchips provide quick reunions by allowing rescue centres, veterinary practices, and control officers to access owner contact info.
- Theft Prevention: Microchipped pets deter theft as they’re easily identified and returned, complicating resale; get the word “Microchipped” or “Chipped” engraved on your pet’s collar.
- Emergency Contact: Microchips aid vets in contacting owners swiftly during accidents or medical emergencies.
- Ownership Proof: Registered microchips serve as legal proof of ownership, settling disputes and ensuring pets stay with rightful owners.
- Travel Compliance: Microchips meet travel regulations, ensuring pets can be returned if lost during trips.

Compulsory Pet Microchipping
NEW Cat Law – 10th June 2024 Deadline
Dog microchipping has been a legal requirement in the UK since April 2016 and now, in June 2024, cat microchipping is also compulsory in England. The new law requires all cats over 20 weeks old to have a microchip implanted by the 10th June 2024.
With pet thefts on the rise, microchipping rabbits and ferrets is highly recommended too. Avoid a fine and give your pet the best chance of being reunited with you should the unthinkable happen.
