Molesey Vets share ideas on what to get exotic pets for Christmas

November 23, 2022

Christmas is upon us and so are the hardest decisions of what to get your pets to put under the tree! Many of you may be looking at all the latest toys or treats you think your pet will like. Whilst dogs and cats are generally easy to buy for, keepers of exotic pets in Surrey may find it a bit more challenging to come up with a gift idea.

The team at Molesey Veterinary Centre have sought out the best advice and suggestions to make your exotic pets happy at Christmas time.

If you have other ideas, why not share them with other exotic pet owners on our Facebook page?

What to get your exotic pet for Christmas

Reptiles

Reptiles are one of the most common exotic species kept as pets, whether it’s snakes, tortoises, or lizards, we don’t want them to feel like they are missing out. Christmas gifts for reptiles may not be on every shelf in the shops but there are plenty of ways you can make them happy at Christmas. Why not give their tank a refresh with some new rockeries, pools, or hiding places?

Ferrets

Ferrets are also another common exotic pet we have in our homes. Ferrets are very inquisitive and playful creatures so finding them something fun and interactive is a great way to make them happy. Try a playpen with coloured balls or a maze (this could be made or bought). Many cat toys are suitable for ferrets too so try searching through the cat isles to see if you can find fun and interactive games.

Other Exotic Pets

With any exotic species, a gift for them can be as simple as adding something new to their habitat or a treat they may not get very often. Maybe they need a new bedding area in their environment? This is the perfect excuse to give their home a little upgrade. If you’re looking at giving them extra treats, speak to us about healthy options or ways to monitor their weight when allowing for the extra treats.

The team at Molesey Vets recommend that with any decision you make about a Christmas gift for your exotic pet this year, always keep safety at the forefront and make sure whatever you select is suitable for their specific species.
